Transform Your Homeschool Why the Revolutionary Music Lesson Calendar of the Month is Your Secret to an Unmatched Quality Music Education (E27)

[00:00:00] Hi, homeschooling friends. Today, I'd like to talk to you about a simple way to transform your homeschool. A few years ago, I created an incredible and revolutionary resource that's a game changer for homeschoolers. It's called the Music Lesson Calendar of the Month.

And it's your secret to an unmatched quality music education. If you've been looking for an easy and effective way to integrate music education into your homeschool, this is it. Let's break down why this resource is so beneficial and how it can revolutionize your homeschooling experience and find out why I'll go even so far as to say that it's all you need for a music education in your elementary homeschool.

If you are a homeschooler looking for ways to easily and affordably include a quality music education in your homeschool, you've come to the right place. This is the Music in Our Homeschool podcast. [00:01:00] I'm Gina Mayo, homeschooling mom of eight and music teacher for over 30 years.

First up, let's talk about convenience and ease of use. The Music Lesson Calendar of the Month provides 20 15-minute music lessons that you and your children can access with just a click every single month. No more extensive planning or preparation, this calendar makes it incredibly easy to fit music education into your busy homeschool routine.

Next, the comprehensive content is impressive. Each lesson covers various aspects of music education, including composers. musical concepts, and famous compositions. The content is often tied to holidays or special days of the month or a composer's birthday, adding relevance and context to the learning experience. This makes the lessons not only educational, but timely and engaging.

And if you're [00:02:00] wondering what those music lessons are all about, they are music appreciation lessons created by me. Who am I to create music lessons? Well, I've been a musician my entire life. I went to Baylor University and received a bachelor's of music education degree there.

Then as I was teaching music in the public schools, I was also working on my master's degree and received it in vocal pedagogy, which is how to teach voice lessons. After that, I did training with Musikgarten to receive certification in early childhood music and movement. Then, when I had my first child and decided to stay home to homeschool my children, I began to teach the early childhood classes for babies through preschoolers out of my home.

As my children grew, I began teaching music classes with our local children's musical theater company called Christian Youth Theater, CYT Chicago. I started directing musicals with them in [00:03:00] 2016 and will be the musical director for the 12th time this fall with the great show Beauty and the Beast.

I started the website MusicinOurHomeschool.Com in 2015 to help homeschoolers easily include a quality music education in their homeschools and have been creating music lessons and full courses ever since then. And my membership Music in Our Homeschool Plus was started in 2019. You can learn more about what music appreciation entails and why it's a beneficial subject for all students. , a few podcasts back. It's called "What exactly is music appreciation and why take the time to include it in your homeschool? So you can search that in your podcast app or head over to musicinourhomeschool. com and search for it there.

So all that to say, my goal is to give you a high quality lesson every time. Your kids will learn about great composers and musical compositions, great musicians, [00:04:00] music from other countries, and ways to connect music to other subjects such as history, geography, science, and holidays.

Flexibility is a key, I believe, in homeschooling and the Music Lesson Calendar of the Month is designed to give you an average of one lesson per week. So that means no, you do not have to do every single daily lesson. Pick one lesson, or a couple, each week. The ones that look the most interesting to you and just do those.

This flexible approach means that you can adapt the program to fit your schedule and needs without feeling pressured to complete the whole thing. It's about consistency, not perfection. Oh, and all you have to do is just click and go. No prep is needed at all, unless you'd like to do one of the optional printable activities, then all you have to do is print those off, or an optional cooking or craft activity that's included with [00:05:00] the world music lessons.

Now let's explore the diverse topics covered in this homeschool music education style. The Music Lesson Calendar of the Month includes a wide range of musical subjects, ensuring a well rounded education. From studying famous composers, to understanding musical concepts, to exploring seasonal musical activities. There's something to keep every student interested. You'll relate music to culture and geography and history and more.

One of the standout features is the structured learning that the Music Lesson Calendar of the Month provides. You get a format with a clear structure for music education throughout the month, helping you as a very busy homeschooler, stay on track and ensuring consistent exposure to important musical concepts.

Motivation and progress tracking are built right into the system. Kids can check off or put [00:06:00] stickers on their completed lessons on the calendar that you can print off, giving them a visual representation of their progress. This not only encourages continued engagement, but also helps them see how much they've learned over time.

What makes this resource even more versatile is that it's suitable for all ages. Even though it's specifically created for elementary age students, many families with preschoolers through high schoolers use it, and report back that their children all enjoy the lessons. That means that the Music Lesson Calendar of the Month caters to a broad age range, making it perfect for families with children at different stages.

And if you are a homeschool parent or teacher who knows nothing about music or how to teach music, you might be concerned that this approach would be difficult for you. But let me assure you that I created every single music lesson with you in mind. No prior musical knowledge is needed. All you have to do is read and do the [00:07:00] lesson alongside your student and you will learn too.

Now I want to tell you where those music lessons included on the Music Lesson Calendar of the Month come from. The lessons are all chosen from seven of my most popular online music courses. In the Basic Tier, which is the lower tier of the Music in Our Homeschool Plus membership, you get the Music Lesson Calendar of the Month plus full access to all seven of those courses.

And let me tell you what they are. Number one is World Music for Elementary. This course introduces students to the music of 65 different cultures and countries around the world. You get engaging videos, listening activities and hands on projects, and it encourages cultural awareness and appreciation of diversity through music.

The second course is American Music for Elementary. This course covers the history and [00:08:00] development of music in the United States from the 1700s through the present day in 36 separate lessons. The lessons focus on notable American composers and musicians and a variety of musical styles. It helps students understand the rich musical heritage of the United States.

The third course is Learn Classical Music with Cartoons. You get 44 lessons that use cartoons to make classical music and composers accessible for kids and adults of all ages. The animated videos are paired with classical music pieces and include an optional movement activity. This engages children with visual and auditory learning.

The fourth course is Intro to Musicals. In this course, your students will be introduced to musical theater and 11 different musicals. We'll highlight popular musicals, key songs, and the history of them, and it cultivates an appreciation for [00:09:00] theater arts.

The next course is the "15-Minute Music Lesson" course. You get 20 short focused lessons on a variety of musical topics, such as acapella music, different instruments, such as the harp, and famous compositions such as Pachelbel's Canon in D. It's designed for quick integration into daily routines and includes optional printables and online quizzes.

The sixth course is State Songs of the 50 U. S. States. In this course you will learn all 50 official state songs, a variety of fun songs that are associated with each state, and some interesting state facts. It includes lyrics, history, and the significance of the songs. And t his course will enhance your knowledge of U. S. geography and history, connecting music education with these other subject areas.

And the seventh course is Music Lessons for Holidays and Special Days. You get 53 [00:10:00] themed music lessons centered around holidays and special days, like Talk Like a Pirate Day and Dr. Seuss Day. Seasonal songs, historical contexts, and activities will make learning fun and festive.

All of these courses are designed to be user friendly, they require no prior musical knowledge from the parent, and they provide a structured yet flexible way to introduce and sustain music education in your homeschool.

Each course is available separately for a separate purchase and would cost a total of $363 if you purchased them that way. But you get all of them along with the curated music lesson calendar of the month for only $19 a month. That is a no brainer! Or choose the annual option, and it's only $15.83 a month. It's less than $4 a week!

So in conclusion, I think you'll agree that the Music Lesson [00:11:00] Calendar of the Month truly stands out as a resource that removes barriers to music education. It's accessible, comprehensive, high quality, affordable, and adaptable, making it a perfect addition to your homeschool.
