Sneak Peek into the Music of Christmas course E41
[00:00:00] Hi everyone, Gena Mayo from Music in Our Homeschool here, and I'm so happy to be talking to you today about Music of Christmas. I actually just returned from two performances this morning. Three of my children are in Beauty and the Beast, and I'm the vocal director. This is with CYT Chicago Christian Youth Theater.
And it's been a very fun run. So we had Tech Week this week. I'm exhausted. And we had two performances this morning. And then we'll be doing some more this weekend. So that's where I am at this point. But I want to talk to you about Music of Christmas. Because as I am recording this and going to be posting it soon, it is going to be Week of Thanksgiving So it's time to start thinking about Christmas and Christmas music and Christmas schooling.
The course that I want to talk to you today and give you a sneak peek behind the scenes is Music of [00:01:00] Christmas, which you can find at musicinourhomeschool. com/MusicofChristmas and be sure to use the code ChristmasSchool because you can get 30 percent off right now.
So let me tell you about this course. When I first wrote it, it was just one year's worth of lessons, and then I've added to it, so now when you purchase it, you can actually use it for three years and do something different each year. And it's great for all ages. Little ones all the way through high school.
So year one gives you sixteen different 15-minute music lessons based on familiar Christmas carols or Christmas songs or Christmas music from the season. Let me tell you what those songs are or the different pieces. There's White Christmas, The Nutcracker, Joy to the World, Oh Holy Night, Silver Bells, Sleigh Ride, Mary, Did You Know, [00:02:00] Frosty the Snowman, In the Bleak Midwinter, Handel and his Messiah, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Silent Night, Carol of the Bells, Santa Lucia, Epiphany and the Day of the Kings, and O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. Now each lesson gives you videos to watch, text to read about the song or the piece, and at least one printable, and an online quiz.
What I always want to encourage you all is that you can fit a 15-minute lesson into your homeschool day. Even if you just pull up the lesson on your phone and show the video to your kids like this, sitting on the couch. You can do that. It doesn't have to be some big setup. You don't have to print out the printables if you don't want to. Those are all optional. They're usually like a matching page or a coloring page, something like that. So I encourage you to be [00:03:00] sure to add some music education into your homeschool day.
So that's year one. Year two has Christmas traditions from around the world. And these are the different countries that you'll be studying. Australia, China, Russia, Scotland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Egypt, Israel, Brazil, and Mexico. So there are 12 different countries that you'll be studying their Christmas traditions. Each lesson includes some scripture to memorize, a lesson about the celebration of Christmas in that particular country. Some picture book suggestions and a craft or an art project. Now, if you add in the craft or the art project, that will take you beyond the 15 minutes of the lesson, but you might want to do that.
And by the way, you can get free preview lessons [00:04:00] if you head over to MusicinOurHomeschool.com/MusicofChristmas. You can get a free preview of Christmas in Australia and for the first year Music of Christmas, you can get a free preview of the Nutcracker.
Now the third year is teaching you about the Festival of the Nine Lessons and Carols. This is a particular celebration of Christmas that was first done at King's College in Cambridge, England on Christmas Eve in 1918. The lessons from the Lessons and Carols are an adaptation for kids of the scripture. and listening to and singing the Christmas songs and carols. Additionally, there's a piece of famous artwork included with every lesson that's related to the scripture and that can be used for picture study.
You can see a free preview of lesson one over at the landing page. So let [00:05:00] me encourage you to head over and check out those lessons. But before we go, I want to just read a few testimonials from those who have used the course before, and you can get an idea of how they used it and how you might be able to use it in your own homeschool.
Amy Roberts of RaisingArrows. net said, "Music of Christmas has been such a fun addition to our Christmas homeschooling this year. We snuggle up on the couch in the evenings and use our smart TV to make it easier for all 11 of us to see the videos. It's been so neat to learn the history behind our favorite Christmas tunes. We're definitely making sweet, holiday memories."
And Leah said, "The Music of Christmas course is a great resource for changing things up as we homeschool through the holidays. Instead of our regular music course, we've had the opportunity to learn some fun information about our favorite Christmas carols. And it's great that the whole family can do it together."
Next we have [00:06:00] Jane who said, "My family is loving the music of Christmas course. The lessons are short and no prep work is necessary, so it's the perfect way to expose my children to a variety of quality Christmas music and the history behind it during this especially hectic time of year. And because the selections are from various writers, countries, and time periods, it's easy to coordinate our music studies with history, geography, or cultural Christmas lessons. This has been an excellent addition to our holiday homeschool studies this year."
And finally, from Sharon, she said, "My kids are really enjoying the Music of Christmas course. My kids find the background information on the carols interesting, and I like how there are a couple of variations of the songs to listen to. Such a great resource for the holiday season."
So head over and check out MusicinOurHomeschool.com/MusicofChristmas to see the Music of Christmas [00:07:00] course. And check out the free preview lessons. And if you want to purchase it, you can get it for 30 percent off with code CHRISTMASSCHOOL.
Now, let me tell you what we're doing for the rest of December. I have a few more podcast episodes about Christmas music that I'm going to share with you. And I did a very special interview of someone that's pretty famous in the homeschool community. I think you'll enjoy that one as well. I'll keep that a secret for now. So until next time, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and keep the music alive.
