Enrichment Studies Fine Art Pages The Stress-Free Way to Simple Art Appreciation in Your Homeschool E51
[00:00:00] Hi, everyone. Welcome back to the music in our homeschool podcast, where we help homeschool families easily discover meaningful ways to include music and fine arts education into your routines. I'm your host Gena Mayo and today we're diving into a fabulous resource that will revolutionize how you approach art appreciation in your homeschool.
It's called Fine Art Pages and they're perfect for busy homeschool families like yours. Let's face it, art appreciation often takes a back seat in our homeschools, doesn't it? Maybe it's because we don't know where to start, we lack the time, or we feel like we need an advanced art history degree to do it right.
But Fine Art Pages changes all of that. Stick around as I share how the simple organic approach to art appreciation, can enrich your homeschool without adding more to your plate.
If you are a homeschooler looking for ways to easily and affordably include a quality [00:01:00] music education in your homeschool, you've come to the right place. This is the Music in Our Homeschool podcast. I'm Gina Mayo, homeschooling mom of eight and music teacher for over 30 years.
If you're like me, you've dreamed of sharing fine art with your children, imagining beautiful works by Monet, Vermeer, or Renoir, adorning your homeschool walls, but then reality steps in and by the time you've bought the math books and the science supplies and stacks of great literature, there's just no room in the budget or schedule for art.
Maybe you've tried art books only to discover that no one's really reading or looking at them. Sound familiar? Well, I have good news. Today, I'm sharing a resource that's simple, affordable, and almost effortless. It's called Fine Art Pages. Stick with me as I walk you through how this ingenious method works and why it's the perfect solution for busy homeschool [00:02:00] families like yours and mine.
So what are Fine Art Pages? They're downloadable, printable collections of artwork that make introducing fine art to your family easy and effective. Each page features one piece of art along with just the right amount of information about the artwork and the artist. And the best part, there's no complicated curriculum to follow.
Just print them out, place them around your home, like on the fridge, in the bathroom, or on a bulletin board, and let your family naturally absorb and engage with the art. This simple exposure method works wonders because it doesn't require structured lessons or any extra planning on your part.
Here's a little backstory. Like many homeschool moms, the creator of Enrichment Studies Fine Art Pages, Erica, found herself overwhelmed by the idea of adding fine art to her schedule. Between teaching lessons, making meals, and keeping [00:03:00] the house running, she didn't have the time or the energy to plan and teach formal art lessons.
Then one day she had this idea. What if she could introduce fine art to her children in a way that was simple, painless, and didn't require her to lift a finger after the initial setup? And that's the concept behind Fine Art Pages.
Here's how it works. Print out the Fine Art Pages on regular paper or cardstock. You can do this at home. , send them to a local copy shop, or order a printed set through me that will arrive in your mailbox. Stick the art up in places where your family will naturally see it- in the bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen- use poster putty or tape to make it easy, or my favorite tool, Fodeez stickable frames, magnets, or push pins on a bulletin board, and then let the art speak for itself. Your kids will notice them, absorb [00:04:00] it, and even start recognizing famous works without you doing anything extra. This method is so effortless, I wonder why I didn't think of it.
So here are some favorite places to display your Fine Art Pages. Next to the bathroom sink, where kids will see it while they're brushing their teeth. On the wall by the kitchen sink, so that the kids helping out with dishes will see them. On the fridge. On the table as a placemat. By each child's bed where they can reflect on the art as they wake up or fall asleep. On the sliding door to the backyard. On each child's bedroom door. In your car, on the back of the car seat or even on a window. And yes, on the wall next to the toilet.
The beauty of this method is that you don't need to announce what you're doing. Just hang up the art and let it do its magic.
Want to take it a step further? Create some fun incentives to engage your kids. For example, you could ask during lunch, [00:05:00] "Who knows the title of the painting that's hanging in the upstairs bathroom?" Or while you're driving in the car, you can quiz them on the artist of the painting that's hanging on the fridge.
These little moments can spark curiosity and help your family learn more without feeling like it's a chore. For younger kids who aren't reading yet, take a moment to share the name of the artist and the title of the piece, and then you can ask simple, open ended questions like, What colors do you see? How does this painting make you feel? What story do you think this painting is telling? The simple exposure creates a foundation for appreciating art that will last a lifetime.
Now let's talk about why Fine Art Pages are such a game changer for homeschool families.
First of all, they're budget friendly. Unlike expensive but beautiful art books or classes, Fine Art Pages are very affordable.
They're effortless. There's no curriculum to [00:06:00] follow, no prep required, no extra teaching time. Just hang up the art and let it do its magic.
They're flexible. You can choose how often you want to swap out the art. Weekly? Monthly? Seasonally? However you choose to do it, your kids will benefit. Over time, these small, consistent exposures will add up. Imagine this. If you just display five pieces of art every year from kindergarten through twelfth grade, by the time your children graduate, they'll be familiar with 65 iconic works. If you swap weekly in two bathrooms, your family could encounter over 100 pieces in a single year.
One of the things I most love about Fine Art Pages is how versatile they are. They're not just for art appreciation. You can use them to enrich other subjects that you're teaching in your homeschool, like [00:07:00] history, geography, literature, nature study, and so much more. Plus, they're a fantastic resource for celebrating special events like Black History Month, Women's History Month, or seasonal holidays such as Easter or Christmas. Let me share a few ideas about how you can integrate these pages into your homeschool.
Art is such a powerful way to bring history and geography to life. With collections like the Frederic Edwin Church Fine Art Pages, your children can see breathtaking landscapes of places like Niagara Falls or the Andes Mountains. This can deepen their understanding of geography and even inspire further study into the regions depicted in the paintings.
We have collections such as the Ancient Greek Sculpture and Pottery Fine Art Pages and the Art of Ancient Egypt Fine Art Pages. These collections are perfect for your ancient history lessons. Display [00:08:00] these pages while learning about these civilizations to give your children a visual understanding of the culture, values, and artistry of those times.
For U. S. History, you can try the Paul Revere Fine Art Pages featuring his famous engravings or many of the collections that we have that depict the wild wild west. Seeing these works of art can spark discussions about historical events, people, and lifestyles. And by the way, be sure you check the description to find a link to the blog post that accompanies this podcast episode and you'll see links to every single one of these collections.
When it comes to celebrating Black History Month or Women's History Month, the Fine Art Pages are an incredible resource. The collection called Celebrating Black People in Art showcases 30 works of art by or about people of color spanning centuries and diverse cultures. You'll not only introduce your kids to [00:09:00] stunning art, but help them learn about important figures and moments in black history.
And for Women's History Month, collections like the Mary Cassatt Fine Art Pages, the Berthe Morisot Fine Art Pages, or the Virginie Demont-Breton Fine Art Pages highlight the contributions of women in art. These artists' works beautifully portray themes of family, motherhood, and everyday life, giving children a window into the unique perspectives women bring into the art world.
But art can also enhance your seasonal or holiday studies. The Easter Fine Art Pages feature biblical artwork that pairs perfectly with scripture, making it a meaningful addition to your Easter celebrations.
For spring, the Beauty of Spring Fine Art Pages brings the season to life with colorful nature-inspired art. During the winter months, you can display the Currier and Ives Winter Fine Art Pages or the Nativity Through the Ages Fine Art [00:10:00] Pages. These collections add a festive touch to your home while teaching your children about historical and cultural perspectives on winter and Christmas.
Now let's not forget literature and creative writing. We have some collections such as the Frank Dicksee Fine Art Pages or Theodor Kittelsen's Trolls and Fairy Tales that are perfect for storytelling. Hang up a piece of art and ask your kids to create a story based on the scene or the characters they see in the art.
Science can even get a boost with art. The Hilma af Klint Fine Art Pages feature abstract works inspired by geometry and nature, offering a unique blend of art and math. Meanwhile, the John James Audubon Fine Art Pages beautifully tie into your nature studies, showcasing intricate bird illustrations that your kids can sketch or research further.
No matter what subject you're teaching, Fine Art [00:11:00] Pages can be a seamless and enriching addition to your homeschool. By tying art into history, geography, or special events, you're giving your kids a broader, more meaningful education without adding any extra work to your plate.
As we wrap up, here's a quick reminder. Art appreciation doesn't have to be complicated or time consuming. With Fine Art Pages, you can introduce your family to beauty, creativity, and culture in a way that fits seamlessly into your homeschool routine.
