Overview of Music in Our Homeschool Plus Membership
Gena Mayo: [00:00:00] Hi, everyone. This is Gena Mayo, and today we are going to be talking about Music in Our Homeschool Plus and how to easily include it in your homeschool. It's been a really long time since I have done a walkthrough of what's inside the membership, so that's what we're doing today.
If you are a homeschooler looking for ways to easily and affordably include a quality music education in your homeschool, you've come to the right place. This is the Music in Our Homeschool podcast. I'm Gena Mayo, homeschooling mom of eight and music teacher for over 30 years.
Gena Mayo: Let's start with when you log in to your account, this is the page you see.
This is your dashboard. And if you were going to do just the Basic membership, let me show you a shortcut. MusicinOurHomeschool.com/calendar, and this will take you [00:01:00] directly to the Music Lesson Calendar of the Month and the Fine Art Pages that you get for that month.
So, here is August, and you scroll down. You see that this is what your Fine Art Pages are, Carl Larsson for August. This is the Music Lesson Calendar of the Month, which you could print out at the bottom. And here are all the lessons that you can do.
Now, the Music in Our Homeschool Music Lesson Calendar of the Month is available at all tiers. The Basic Tier is only $9 a month, and you get a 15-minute music lesson every single day of the week. So, for example, August 3rd was National Georgia Day, so you click through here, and it brings you to the Georgia music lesson. August 4th was Louis Armstrong's birthday, so you click through there and see a lesson about him.
So, I like to do it with birthdays, with special days like International Blues Day There's [00:02:00] National Vinyl Record Day and Elvis Week and World Lion Day. And so, I try to find really fun lessons that are music appreciation but relate to the day of the week.
If you scroll to the bottom Here is the Fine Art Pages, which is the simplest way that you can do art appreciation, because all you do is print out the pages that you want and stick them up in different places around your house.
You can put them in your bathroom, on your refrigerator, by your child's bed, on the door as you're heading to the garage, wherever. And then they're just naturally seeing the art. If you print out the pages that have the name of the painting, the artist's name, when it was painted, the style, and an interesting fact, they might even learn the name of the artist and the style.
You could scroll down. Most of the Fine Art Pages come in a different format, which [00:03:00] is, you can see here, just the painting filling the whole page, doesn't have any more information. So you choose which way you want to do that.
So after the Fine Art Pages, then you get three different versions of the Music Lesson Calendar of the Month. You have a colored version, you have a black-and-white version, and you have a blank version, because you get to choose how you want to do this. If you are going through a particular course, for example, you can choose to do other lessons, put them on the calendar, and this can be the way that you keep track of it.
Now, what else comes with the Basic Membership? You get seven full courses. So let me go back over here to the dashboard and show you the courses. They're probably not in order because with this particular account, I have access to the premium membership, so it's going to show more.
But with the basic membership, you get the 15-Minute Music Lessons course. You get [00:04:00] Intro to Musicals. Let me see if I can find all the rest for you
I clicked plus 87. Here we go. You get... American Music course. You get the, scrolling down. See, these are all the courses we have available at Music In Our Homeschool. And I'll go ahead and tell you that you get access to all of these if you are a Core Member or a Premium Member or a School/ Co-op Member.
You get access to all of these courses, except for Kinderbach. That one needs to be purchased separately because of the deal I have worked out with the author. But everything else you get. So, Learn Classical Music with Cartoons comes with a Basic Membership. You also get, scrolling down so you can [00:05:00] see everything that you have. Oh, I can see it's in alphabetical order. You get State Songs of the 50 U.S. States. You get World Music online course, and then you also get the, Music Lessons for Holidays and Special Days. That includes all four months. This is just a summer one right here. So those seven courses come with the Basic Membership.
And let me just click into one of those courses for you so you can see this. This is the State Songs of the 50 US States, and here's how it works. You've got, information on how to use it, and then this course is broken up by state. You have all 50 states in order that they entered the union, and when you click on a particular state, it gives you some information about that state, a little bit of a geography lesson video.
Then we are talking about the state songs. So here is the 1967, this was the song [00:06:00] adopted as the official song of Hawaii. You can listen to that here. You can get the sheet music and the lyrics. And then there's other songs related to the state that I include in the course, like Blue Hawaii by Elvis Presley or some by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, which I cannot pronounce his name. Sorry, but he was a great, Hawaiian singer. Yes.
So you get all of these other courses available with the Basic membership, which is only $9 a month. It's a great thing to even just try for one month and see if you like it. I try to make it as easy as possible for you to connect with the material. I send out an email every Sunday that gives you links, so you can click directly from the email to the links to the lessons, rather than having to log in at MusicinOurHomeschool.com/calendar, if that's the way you'd like to do it.
All right. Now let me show you what you get with the Core Membership. I actually told you you [00:07:00] get access to all of those courses. Things like, Beginning Music Theory for Elementary and Beginning Music Theory for Teens. Sound Bites. There's lots of fun Sound Bites lessons about Meet the Orchestra and Jazz Music Appreciation. There's Songs from Pa and Laura if you're reading the Little House on the Prairie books. There's Singing Made Easy and Guitar Time and Recorder Time and Bass Guitar Time. So many great courses, and you get to pick and choose with the Core Membership level.
Then if you go to the Premium membership level, one thing you get with this level is... Let me see if I can click into it. You get Resources for Premium Tier.
So if I click into here, this is the additional material that you get. The live monthly lessons. So every month I teach a brand new, never [00:08:00] been taught before, music lesson, usually about a different composer. This month I did it on the composers Pasek and Paul, who wrote The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen, James and the Giant Peach, some of those really fun musicals.
I give you the video lesson, the audio version replay. If you aren't able to join me live, you get the replays to all of the lessons that I've ever taught. You get a Spotify playlist. Sometimes I share some other videos and a printable pack. So these are fun. There's usually some games in there, fun things related to the music lesson. So, , last month in July, I taught the music of Spider-Man movies. This was another really fun one. , There have been like, , Lin-Manuel Miranda, the music of Hamilton, Encanto, Moana.
Then you skip down past all the music lesson replays, and you get the live monthly art lessons. This is another thing [00:09:00] that I do every month for the Premium Members. I teach an art lesson. I go through the tutorial with you, like here is the video tutorial. They usually take about an hour. You get all this material as well the, step-by-step painting instructions and a traceable in different sizes, so you can choose what size you want. , So I have many, many of those.
And then at the bottom, you can see that there's a, a special Fine Arts Topic Master Class section. This is for high schoolers. I have some on drama, and music, and dance, and art. So that is the Premium Level.
And then if you are interested in using this material at your school or your co-op, then you'll want to get the School/ Co-op Level, and then you can use anything that is included with any of your students [00:10:00] at your school. So all of your teachers can use it, and that is a really incredible deal. You've gotta check that one out, too.
So I hope that this has helped you understand a little bit more about Music in Our Homeschool Plus, and how do you find it? You go to MusicinOur Homeschool.com membership and that will bring you to this page where you can choose which level you want.
